Beverages » how2heroes Holiday Sangria
Somewhere in between a traditional sangria and mulled cider lies this creative beverage created for how2heroes by Personal Chef JJ Gonson. Rather than use citrus fruits, JJ opts for apples and dried cranberries. Let it sit in the refrigerator for about 6-8 hours before serving for best results. Well worth the wait!
Ingredients
- 1 cup apple cider
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 5-7 star anise
- about 20 whole allspice berries
- 1 apple, chopped
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup triple sec
- 1 magnum of red wine plus 1 regular-sized bottle red wine
How-to
- In a saucepan, add cider, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and allspice berries and bring to a boil
- Remove from the stove and completely cool the cider completely in a bowl placed on another bowl of ice
- In a pitcher add apples, cranberries and then add cooled cider/spice mixture
- Add ¼ cup triple sec and 1 bottle red wine
- Let sit in refrigerator for at least 6-8 hours
- Strain liquid before serving and add apple slices and cinnamon sticks

This recipe reminded me of that holiday tradition. Having chilled wine instead of the hot cider was refreshing on the palette.
